TRANSPARENT CURTAINS SOFTEN THE LIGHT
A series of works inspired by the drawings of Sasnusī Well Being programme participants & the curtains that adorn the windows of houses in Aknīste, Latvia.
The first thing that struck me in Aknīste were the white transparent curtains that adorned many of the windows and wich seemed to let a gentle light into the rooms. Inspired by these images, I decided to create my own interpretation. Using materials that I could easily find, I began to embroider designs. Each embroidered design is inspired by the individual and collective drawings of the Sansusī Well Being programme participants, allowing their creativity to shape the work. Through this process I wanted to create an artistic dialogue with them. Using my white thread as a link, I wanted to connect with the workshop participants and the local community.
